On July 5, 2024, officers responded to 375 Fifth Street on a report of a vandalism to a city-owned vehicle. It was reported that an unknown suspect had placed an explosive device on the car, causing severe damage.
The damage was indicative of a large explosion, possibly from an illegal firework explosive device. The explosion destroyed the cowl area, hood, front fender, windshield and components inside the engine area. The repair cost exceeds $10,000. Due to the extensive damage, the vehicle was placed out of commission.
Hollister Police Detectives investigated this incident and quickly obtained leads on the presumed suspect. Detectives worked continuously and diligently for several weeks to determine the suspect’s identity. With the assistance of city-owned surveillance cameras, detectives gathered crucial information to positively identify the suspect.

On October 14, 2024, Officer Pompa contacted the suspect in connection to another investigation. Detectives were able to close this case and arrest Carlos Bravo Casarez (41), a resident of Sacramento County who has ties in Hollister, as a suspect in this case.
Carlos Bravo Casarez was booked at San Benito County Jail for the following felony charges:
- 594(a)(2) PC- Felony Vandalism
- 18710(A) PC- Possession of a destructive device or explosive
