Firefighters honor fallen colleague

Firefighters from throughout the region were in San Benito County on Saturday, Sept. 7, to show their respects to Chris Ward. Ward, who was 47 years old, died in the line of duty on Aug. 29. 

Curtis Rhodes of CalFire said about 300 firefighters and law enforcement personnel participated.

Ward joined Calfire in June 2020, serving in the San Benito-Monterey unit. He was promoted to fire apparatus engineer and trained California National Guard members.
