REACH and BenitoLink invite the public to a free to the public Moonlight Walk on Saturday, Nov. 16. There will be a dedication to the Old Stage Road History and County’s 150th Birthday acknowledged at 3:30 p.m.
REACH San Benito Parks Foundation is also celebrating 10 years of operation as a nonprofit. REACH has successfully and tirelessly advocated for more parks and hiking locations for the public in San Benito County.
The event is free and snacks will be offered to participants.
Moonlight Walk Information:
The walk takes place at the de Anza Trail in San Juan Bautista. Registration opens at the site at 3:00p.m. at the trail head. Sun will set at 4:55 p.m. and the Moon will rise at 5:26 p.m.
As folks arrive, the head of each group will sign a waiver and add all names in their party w/contact information. This will account for safe returns.
Those who sign in will be eligible for prizes when walkers return! Don’t forget your RED Ticket so you can get a snack.
The unveiling of the Old Stage Road History and Anza Trail interpretive signage will commence after a brief R.E.A.C.H. Welcome and a SJB bicycle group hit the Trail to the Monterey side!
Speakers:
Speaker Robert Rivas will give a brief speech about the Old Stage Road continuing to be a ‘bridge’ between Counties, Communities and Cultures.
Other short presentations by regional dignitaries follow.
The Moonlight Walk ribbon will be cut by Supervisor Kosmicki when the bicyclists return by 5:00 pm.
Astronomers will be stationed either on the trail or at the entry gate. Walkers, please always register everyone to account for stragglers and safety.
Guests are asked to be ‘off-the-trail’ by 8:00 p.m.
Parking is limited, so carpooling is advised.
- Families Welcome! Dogs on leash OK
- Bring your own water bottle
- Dress in layers, comfortable shoes, flashlights with RED FILTER ONLY to preserve night vision for walkers
- The walk is a moderately strenuous 1 to 2.5 miles uphill (2-5 miles total).

On Nov. 16 the moon rises 5:26 p.m., while the sun sets at 4:55 p.m. It is a magical atmosphere called the ‘Golden Hour.’ Organizers ask that you bring flashlights that are set to red light only. Dress Warmly!! This is a perfect event for families and friends to enjoy a fun moonlight trail adventure before bedtime. A lasting memory you will talk about for a long while.
